Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can I record the session?

No, recording is not permitted during the session however mp3 recordings can be provided after.

  • What if I don’t come back round from being hypnotised?

During hypnosis you remain in control, you are just in a very relaxed and focused state. The concern about not waking up from hypnosis is a common one, but it’s important to know that this is actually a myth. Hypnosis is a state of deep relaxation and focused attention, and it’s not possible to remain hypnotised indefinitely. The majority of people are guided out of trance by the Hypnotherapist or they naturally come back to full awareness on their own.

  • Am I still aware of my surroundings during hypnosis?

Whilst it may look like you’re asleep during hypnosis, it’s actually a deeply relaxed state where you are still aware of your surroundings and your thoughts. People can experience hypnosis in various different ways. Unlike a person who is asleep, a hypnotised person is alert at all times. Hypnosis is more similar to being absorbed in a daydream, or ‘lost’ in a good book, or movie, in that you are aware of what is happening around you, but most of your focus is upon one subject.

  • What can I expect from a session?

Our first session together will last around 1.5 hours, with the main body of this being a consultation. You will have emailed me a completed consultation form prior to this session and we will explore this together during our first session. This will allow me to gain a bigger picture around the issues you want support with and together we can set realistic goals for you. Towards the end, we may finish with a short relaxation session, if time allows. During the first session, I will also explain how Hypnotherapy works and answer any queries or questions you may have.

Session 2 will be booked before you leave where possible, should you wish to continue your Hypnotherapy journey with me. Session 2, and any further subsequent sessions, will be carefully planned out to help you reach your goals, with the main body of the sessions being hypnosis.

  • How many sessions will I need?

This really depends on your individual situation. In most situations, it is very rare that a client would require only one session.

Your subconscious mind is a complex infrastructure and it can take some time to find the source of your problem and correct it. The average number of times people see me for any given issue is about 2-3 sessions but it really does depend on the individual situation.

  • Can you guarantee results?

“You have got to want the change, believe you can achieve it and be ready and willing to accept it”

While hypnotherapy can be a powerful tool, it’s not a magic solution, and success often requires a collaborative effort between myself, the therapist, and you, the client. Many people believe Hypnotherapy is something that is “done” to them but it is important to understand that change happens because you want it to and because you are committed to taking the necessary steps to allow it to happen. You should understand that Hypnotherapy does not guarantee results for everyone.

  • Can sessions be carried out online?

Yes, I offer sessions via video call (usually Whatsapp or Zoom). These are just as effective as face to face sessions.

  • What can hypnosis treat?

Hypnosis can support so much! The most common issues are anxiety, IBS, fear, phobias, smoking cessation, weight loss, addictions, confidence, stress…..

  • Is it like what you see on stage or on TV?

No, the complete opposite! You will not be made to do anything you do not wish to do. What you see on stage or TV is purely for entertainment value. You remain in control the whole time and will not do anything your body does not want to do.

  • Should i mention that i am on medication?

It would be really helpful if you are able to disclose as much information as you can, in particular if you are on medication.

  • Is it safe to get hypnotised?

Of course. Choosing a qualified and fully insured hypnotherapist means that you are very safe.

  • Do I have to do anything before a session?

After your first session is booked and your booking fee has been made, you will receive two forms to complete. This must be done prior to our first session together or the session may have to be cancelled. It is also important not to have consumed alcohol before sessions. You may at times be given “homework” to complete to help support your goals before your next session or information handouts to read through in your own time.
